FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Boneshaker fun?

Yes.

Is The Boneshaker kind of dumb?

Yes.

What kind of bike should I ride?

Anything fully rigid! Cyclocross bikes, vintage mountain bikes, BMX bikes, cruisers, rigid fat bikes, gravel bikes, road bikes that you don't mind beating up or weird frankenstein bikes; as long as it's rigid it's the bike for this race.

How hard will the trails be?

Traditionally the hardest trail in the course is Leave of Absence. This year we're changing things up, but the hardest trail won't be harder than Leave of Absence.

Can I ride in the Boneshaker on a bike with suspension that is pumped up to such high pressures that the suspension can't possibly move?

Sorry, but no. The rule is that if it looks like suspension it is not allowed. There is a special exception for soft-tail frames (like this one). They are allowed because we think they're cool. Other exceptions will be considered.

How will the race be timed?

Each rider will time themselves with Strava. Strava isn't ideal for race timing, but it allows us to operate on a non-existent budget.

How do I register?

You don't really register, but we ask that you join the Boneshaker group on Strava. This makes it much easier for us to retrieve your stage times.

Can I volunteer?

Yes. We could use help signing the course before race day and taking signs down after the race. If you have ideas on how to improve the event, if you'd like to help with The Boneshaker in any way please send an email to bones@boneshake.com.
